CHICKEN SHACK ANNOUNCES SWITCH TO ZERO TRANS FAT COOKING OIL

All 18 Metro Detroit Restaurants converted March 15, 2007

Warren, Mich. Chicken Shack announced today it converted all 18 restaurants in Metro Detroit to a zero grams trans fat cooking oil. The new oil, a cholesterol free canola based oil, replaced the partially hydrogenated oil that was previously in use at Chicken Shack restaurants.

Warren-based chain says no to trans fat in cooking oil as reported by,  Brian C. Louwers and Terry Oparka  C & G Staff Writers for C & G Newspapers.

The conversion follows an extensive testing period of oil options, which keep the same taste and flavor profile.

“We are excited to announce Chicken Shack has switched to a zero trans fat cooking oil,” said Mark Sobeck, President of Chicken Shack. “We have tested a number of different types of cooking oil and are pleased to announce that we found one that provides the same delicious taste that distinguishes us from our competitors. The great news is that Chicken Shack has not compromised quality by eliminating the trans fat.”

Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend minimizing the consumption of trans fat as part of a healthy diet and Chicken Shack is taking steps to help Americans make healthier choices.

Chicken Shack was founded in 1956 by John and Iola Sobeck in Royal Oak, Michigan. Today there are 18 locations located throughout Metro Detroit. Chicken Shack has been voted Michigan’s Best chicken and ribs by the Detroit News and Free Press.
